Educational Technologies and Globalization in Pakistan

Abstract

 Globalization is the result of technology explosion in knowledge base society. The term globalization has been used as slogan for recent activities at institutions of higher education the world over. It is a process, which assimilates different systems and allows boundaries to disappear (Teichler, U., 2002, p.3). It entails word-wide competition of universities, commercial knowledge transfer and International study offers. In the era of information technology and globalization, effective and efficient teaching learning process is potentially possible at any time and any place in any discipline. It occurs in changed situation with a shift from teacher centered teaching to student centered learning. The greater emphasis is on activity of students than that of the teachers. Teachers are required to play new role in new settings. Accumulated knowledge and experience occupies central place, to which students have direct access. Students learn not only by the teacher but also with the teacher by interacting with one another, teachers and institution. Teachers have to work in groups’ preparing and evaluating instructional materials and organizing data into accessible form the world over. They are spending their time in coaching students, helping them learn through receiving huge information using information and communication technologies. They offer group presentation, carefully constructed in applicable to solve the current problems. Teachers help students in assisting them sampling the standard material, negotiating criteria of importance & standards and originality in research and development. They can collaborate and coordinate teaching activities with renowned institution of the world.
